The Boondock Saints, finished

Here, we go the final of The Boondock Saints. Black and white and color. I started working on this because I watched the whole first season of The Walking Dead in one day. And of course Norman Reedus, the actor who plays Murphy McManus, also plays a bad ass character on that show. I decided to watch The Boondock Saints again as well as it's sequel, which I had never seen. The Boondock Saints was better than I remembered, and only improved with each viewing.

I got the idea for a sort of altarwith images representing things in the movie, beer, meat, Rocco's finger. Though the little in memorandum picture of Rocco was almost replaced. But I figured Rocco was one of my favorite characters and it's my illustration, he stays.

The one notable absence isof Agent Smecker. But his character was so great he deserves his own piece of fanart. Maybe for the next post.

I really loved working on this, I hope it shows.

Fight Club

The first project for my first storyboard class, was to take a genre movie and board a scene from it. I chose Fight Club. The genre was Film Gris. Wikipedia explains Film Gris as this:

Films gris offer a leftist criticism of society in general, and of capitalism in particular. They typically examine such themes as the psychological damages of class, the false promises of middle class happiness, and the pitfalls of materialism.

I think that definition fits this film to a T.

Not only is this one of my favorite films, I learned so much from boarding this scene.

The Boondock Saints

Not completed, I have to add Connor, Murph, and Rocco up in the top. But here's the faming device. The wreath includes the Irish flag, Rocco's finger, beer, meat and clover. The bow is made of the Saints' Berettas and rosaries.

The Joker Completed

Now for the fun parts with The Joker. When I was finishing this I read that The Dark Knight Rises won a scream award. Really? As much as I loved The Dark Knight, and Batman Begins, I'm not feeling this movie yet. It seems overrun by some intriguing actors (Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levit, Tom Hardy.)

But on to the art!

At first I wanted to do the image entirely in black and white, no grays, no color. But my talented boyfriend Matthew suggested I make the bricks gray instead of black. It really made a difference, it pushed the space back how I wanted.

Finally I added some color, the spray painted smiley face came first. Then I realized The Joker would look naked without his lipstick and green hair.

I had so much fun working on this character! I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed working on it.

Minerva McGonogall

This was made when I was joyfully included in the beta test for Pottermore.(I'm MidnightGold25, duel me!) I was reading her backstory, it just made me love her more.

The Joker, night one.

This was made in between long jags of working on my graphic novel. I needed something fun to draw, just to make myself keep going.

The Joker, night 2

Night two, I gave up the graphic novel and was engrossed with The Joker. More to come later.
